A Message from James Green, Gallery Director

Since closing our doors at the end of March, we have been working hard to ensure we support artists, freelancers, regular participants, volunteers and staff in every way we can. But we have also been planning new approaches to delivering extraordinary encounters for you, with great art and artists. And we’ve been thinking about how we can support our communities, working with and responding to them in new ways.

You may already have seen that many of our most important projects have been re-imagined in a digital format, from Our Young People’s Art Prize People’s Vote on Facebook and our regular Tea, Cake & Art sessions and Lunchtime School are now being delivered live to people’s homes using open-source video conferencing tools.

We are redoubling our work with key partners, who we will support in delivering major projects in the coming months, including WILD Young Parents and LGBTQIA+ young people from across Cornwall, both continuing to draw on the fabulous resource of the Arts Council Collection of more than 8,000 works of contemporary art.

Reflecting on Cornwall’s tradition of feasts and festivals – not forgetting our own 125th anniversary this year – we are looking at how we can host online gatherings for a mass audience later this year. We are also thinking about how we can get everyone painting, drawing and making art in their own homes, with the results forming the heart of a celebratory event at the gallery when we reopen.

While we are closed to the public we are determined to continue supporting the artists, creative sector and the people of our community. Please consider becoming a Supporter, or making a donation to help us do this. All Supporter subscriptions and donations, large or small, will ensure that we can keep offering our audience and our communities, art and activities that can inspire and change things for the better.
