EMILY NIXON – Holdfast Ring Silver
A sculptural design in silver, capturing the character of holdfast: the root-like structure that connects seaweed to the sea bed. Bunches of these curious plant anchors hang drying in Emily’s studio, their organic form a constant source of inspiration.
Naturally inspired and stylishly understated.
Emily Nixon lives in West Cornwall which has shaped her work. “I love the weathered character of flotsam I see washed up along the shore. This dichotomy of the precious and the organic – special stones encircled by sea-worn fragments of gold – characterises so much of my inspiration.” – Emily Nixon.
In the 1990s Emily once the Director of Newlyn Art Gallery then lead on to her starting to make experimental, sculptural jewellery in 2000. After studying fine art textiles at Goldsmith’s College Emily spent a postgraduate year at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Art in Poland.
