GEMMA LESSINGER X WATERHAUL

Gemma’s work stems from a fascination with the ocean, contrasting the power and fear against the calm it can create, juxtaposing these visually in a way that words often can’t. Gemma re-purposes waste fibres to build her pieces, including surfboard and ghost fishing net fibres; highlighting that one person’s waste can be another’s treasure.

In collaboration with Waterhaul, we are delighted to showcases a new take on ‘Pocket Art’, through which Waterhaul’s end-of-life sunglasses have been reanimated by Gemma as visual representations of their combined missions – to clear our ocean of plastic pollution, and to revalue waste materials. Having presented these unique pieces, alongside Waterhaul’s full range of glasses, sunglasses and, litter pickers during Storm Warning, they will now be auctioned to celebrate the end of the end of the exhibition.

A portion of the proceeds will support our Tea Cake & Art, plus Project Seagrass, and The Marine Conservation Society.
