Autumn Season At Newlyn Art Gallery

Join us to view the new autumn season of exhibitions, with DJ Chewy spinning tunes in the Garden Café from 13.30 – 17.30.

2020 marks the 125th anniversary of the opening of Newlyn Art Gallery, and our autumn programme forms the heart of our 125 celebrations and reflects our commitment to projects that are meaningful and relevant to as many people as possible.

In the upper gallery, Extraordinary Postcards For Extraordinary Times is a record of our collective experiences of life under lockdown. Local groups including St Petroc’s homeless charity, Whole Again Communities, schools and residential homes, WILD young parents, Cornwall Library borrowers, Penzance Food Bank users, the Intercom Trust and Shallal have all contributed to the project. We have also had submissions from far flung places: not just Cornwall and the UK, but across Europe and from the Far East and the United States.

In the lower gallery we present a series of artists’ films selected from the Arts Council Collection by young LGBTQIA+ people, through our ongoing partnership with the Intercom Trust. New paintings by Jake Clark are presented in The Picture Room.

In the garden, we have Signs Of The Times, artists’ responses to recent events, in particular the Coronavirus pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement, through posters and placards. In October, during Black History Month we will present an installation by Black Voices Cornwall in the Studio Café area upstairs.

In line with social distancing measures, numbers will be limited within the building at any one time, but you can sit on the green and enjoy the music while waiting to enter the gallery.

Gallery and exhibitions open 10.00 – 17.00, with music in the Garden Cafe from 13.30.
