JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsible to: Operations Manager
Rate: £10.48 per hour (to be reviewed in April 2023)
Core hours: We are expecting the candidate to work Saturdays, 9:30-17.30 also covering evening events, annual leave, and staff sickness when they occur, plus additional shifts in the busy summer months. This is a zero-hours contract.
You will be part of a small team helping maintaining the smooth running of all Front of House elements at either of our venues, including the café, shop, ticketing, exhibition spaces, events and our volunteer programme. As Duty Manager you will act as the face of the organisation, providing fantastic customer service and must be up to date on current exhibitions and coming events.

DUTY MANAGER
Main Duties/Responsibilities:
You will be acting Duty Manager when another manager is unavailable. Upholding Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange’s mission statement the Duty Manager will ensure a fantastic customer service is offered by all staff and volunteers. Responsibilities include security of the building, artworks and cash on the premises, and management of risks and technical faults that may occur during working hours. The Duty Manager will oversee the maintenance and overall safety procedures of the premise during the time they are working and oversee the day-to-day management of staff and volunteers. This role comes with a high level of responsibility and it is essential that any issues that occur whilst acting as Duty Manager are communicated to the Line Manager.
– Daily tasks, including opening up, tills and cash-handling responsibilities, ensuring exhibitions and displays are prepared.
– To take all reasonable steps to ensure the safety and security of staff, contractors and the public.
– Ensuring that the exhibition galleries and other public areas are fit for public use and clean.
– To ensure that all visitors are made to feel welcome at both sites and that high standards of customer care are maintain.
– To act as an advocate for the gallery and all of its services, in particular to actual and potential audiences.
– To demonstrate a positive attitude to your own professional development and that of the staff, paid and unpaid, that you manage.
– Answering the phones and taking messages for other staff.
– Enforcing gallery and exhibition policy and risk assessments.
– Making sure you have an awareness of our accessibility policy.
CAFÉ BARISTA
Main Duties/Responsibilities:
– To always provide exceptional customer service and a high standard knowledge about the products we sell.
– Ensuring high levels of cleanliness and hygiene are maintained.
– Being responsible for cleaning the café area and completion of daily health & safety records.
– Being responsible for the smooth running of the café during events.
– Being responsible for finance – using EPOS & SumUp till system.
– Preparing of food and beverages, level 2 Food Hygiene required.
– Being aware of Licensing laws – ensure you are aware of Newlyn Art Gallery’s licensing restrictions.
– Being responsible for the smooth running of the café during events.
– Maintaining excellent levels of communications with the rest of the team, including the Café Manager and Operations Manager.
– Willingness to attend training as appropriate.
Candidates will be interviewed then asked to do a two-hour trial shift.

– Has previous management experience in a visitor services environment (D)
– Has previous retail experience (D)
– Has a positive attitude to the work of Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange and is enthusiastic about the ability of the arts to inspire, delight and bring about positive change. (D)
– Has experience managing a team of volunteers (D)
– Has retail and café experience (D)
– Has a passion for contemporary art (D)
