The Studio, Newlyn Art Gallery
Trethvor (Cornish for Seaside) is an adaptable, itinerant photography exhibition that celebrates the Cornish coast.
It features work by Michael Eddy / Jasper Fell-Clark / Tor Harrison / Tom Ingate / Melanie Stidolph / Becky Tyrrell
The work of the six artists included explores a range of interpretations of the seaside. From the fishing industry that has shaped much of the region’s history, to personal and poetic reactions to the changing landscape of the coastline, they each provide us with an insight into Cornwall’s arguably most defining feature.
The works have been put together into a newspaper, copies of which are available in the gallery for you to take away. The newspaper and exhibition sit alongside the exhibition Seaside: Photographed
If you feel inspired to take things further, why not take your own photographs? Or curate your own exhibition of this work? (You’ll need two copies of the newspaper to create the full show.)
Whatever you produce, please do share it for others to see.

MICHAEL EDDY
Michael is a film director and social documentary photographer based in West Cornwall. Over the years he has developed a fascination for telling stories in alternative visual ways, with processes including specialist darkroom printing and experimental cine film shorts. The work included here is a personal document of his home town Newlyn.
JASPER FELL CLARK
Jasper is a British photographer whose practice explores the revelatory capacity of photography. His work distils both quiet and intense moments in the landscape, meditating on its form and narrative.
Jasper lives and works in Cornwall.
TOR HARRISON
Tor is a photographer based in Cornwall. She grew up on the Cornish coast and has always been drawn to capturing elements of the landscape in an inviting way. She pays homage to the ancient, sculptural landscape whilst highlighting the fleeting, subtle changes of the elements. Tor is also interested in documenting everyday moments of human interaction; exploring our innate connection and deep resonance with bodies of water and the coastline.
TOM INGATE
Tom is a photographer, teacher and artist based in Cornwall that uses the environment as the starting place for storytelling. Work includes documentary photography and process-led collaborations between plant, microbe and mammal, with sound recordings and musical performance making an appearance to try and find new ways to talk about how we participate in our ecosystems.
MELANIE STIDOLPH
Melanie’s work Last Summer is informed by her experience of childlessness. Photographing families with young children is approached through a shared love of the sea. Begun in New Zealand and continuing in Cornwall, the photographs focus on how we arrange ourselves and gesture to others, signalling our belonging in an open landscape.
Melanie lives and works in Cornwall.
BECKY TYRRELL
Becky is a photographer living and working in West Cornwall using storytelling, social documentary and portraiture to explore the lives of those who call this place home.
