We are looking for volunteers to help invigilate Armada, our summer exhibition by Hew Locke at Newlyn Art Gallery. Volunteers are needed from 15 May to 1 Nov for either a morning shift (10:00 – 13:00) or an afternoon shift (13:00 – 17:00) in the Upper Gallery. The role involves engaging with visitors and ensuring the safety of the artwork. If you’re interested in being part of this exciting exhibition, we’d love to hear from you!

Volunteers’ enthusiasm and commitment contribute hugely to the culture and ethos of the galleries. If you have time to spare, an interest in contemporary art, and enjoy meeting people, volunteering with us could be for you.

Delivering a rewarding volunteer programme is a vital part of our mandate at Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange. Our team of volunteers bring energy and creativity to the gallery spaces every day, as they help us deliver a busy programme of exhibitions, events and workshops, and present the public face of the gallery.

Our volunteers have many different motivations, from gaining experience in a high profile gallery as part of a career in the visual arts, to commecting with like-minded people, playing an active role in the community, or simply learning transferable skills. However, all volunteers have in common an interest in contemporary visual art which they are able to develop and disseminate through their engagement with exhibitions, people and ideas.

BENEFITS OF VOLUNTEERING WITH US

As well as joining a supportive team, volunteers receive:

  • 20% discount in the shop and café, and on events, workshops, and courses.
  • Free hot drinks while on shift.
  • A contribution to travel expenses.
  • Opportunity to show work in Volunteer Exhibitions.
  • Invitations to exclusive previews and social events.
