VOLUNTEER WITH US!

We are looking for volunteers to help invigilate Armada, our summer exhibition by Hew Locke at Newlyn Art Gallery. Volunteers are needed from 15 May to 1 Nov for either a morning shift (10:00 – 13:00) or an afternoon shift (13:00 – 17:00) in the Upper Gallery. The role involves engaging with visitors and ensuring the safety of the artwork. If you’re interested in being part of this exciting exhibition, we’d love to hear from you!

Volunteers’ enthusiasm and commitment contribute hugely to the culture and ethos of the galleries. If you have some time to spare, an interest in contemporary art, and enjoy meeting people, volunteering with us could be for you.

Delivering a rewarding volunteer programme is central to our mission at Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange. Our volunteers bring energy and creativity to the gallery every day, helping us deliver a busy programme of exhibitions, events, and workshops while representing the public face of the gallery.

Volunteers have different motivations — from gaining experience in a high-profile gallery as part of a career in the visual arts to learning transferable skills or simply meeting like-minded people and playing an active role in the community. What they all share is an interest in contemporary visual art, which they develop and share through their engagement with visitors.

BENEFITS OF VOLUNTEERING WITH US
As well as joining a supportive team and gaining valuable career experience in a leading contemporary art venue, volunteers receive:

  • 20% discount in the shop and café, and on events, workshops, and courses.
  • Free hot drinks while on shift and lunch expenses covered for full-day volunteering.
  • A generous contribution to travel expenses.
  • Invitations to Volunteer Exhibitions and social events.
