These historic artist studios in St Ives have seen the creation of works by internationally significant figures such as Ben Nicholson, Patrick Heron, Francis Bacon and Wilhelmina Barns-Graham. The extremely fragile building received funding for major renovations in 2010 and is now being carefully restored in stages.
In March 2013 Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange was invited to take part in the project by helping to develop a programme for young people. Artist Mark Dion was commissioned to produce a piece of work which reflects the studio’s joint fishing and artistic history. Four schools, all in fishing communities in Cornwall, were asked to take part, beginning with a workshop with Mark Dion in October 2013.
