Newlyn Art Gallery
An artist-led, creative workshop for adults who enjoy spending time outside.
Join Kitty Hillier for a workshop of slow drawing and walking with all senses, where she will share some of the playful abstraction techniques she uses in her practice.
Kitty will lead us on a short coastal walk from Newlyn, giving simple instructions along the way to observe, in the moment, noticing details in both the man-made and the natural world. Abstract forms will be distilled and collected from all that we see, hear, touch and feel. Incorporating experimental mark-making methods, we will respond to this place with all our senses, paying attention to shadows, rhythm and edges. We will embrace chance and document fleeting encounters with wildlife and the elements.
This will be a valuable experience for beginners and experienced artists alike, anyone who would like to discover new ways to engage with and enjoy the landscape and loosen their approach to drawing.
I rarely draw what I see. I draw what I feel in my body.
Barbara Hepworth
Some basic drawing materials will be provided, but please bring a sketchbook, water bottle and any snacks you might like – walking and drawing make for thirsty work! A camera or smartphone would also be useful.
£25 per person, places limited.
Booking essential
Please note: This event takes place outside and will go ahead whatever the weather, so please wear suitable footwear (sturdy walking shoes) and weather protection as appropriate.
FACING THE SUN
A new collection of two- and three-dimensional work by Kitty Hillier will be shoing in The Picture Room at Newlyn Art Gallery from 24 Jul.
This event is part of a series. Inspired by a strong urge to spend time outside in nature and be creative after a long year indoors, we are offering a new workshop walk every month over the summer. Each workshop will be led by a different artist and explore a variety of creative techniques in the context of going for a walk.
