The Exchange
A CPD OPPORTUNITY FOR ARTISTS
Led by Rosanna Martin from Brickworks and painter Ben Sanderson, this is a two-day ceramics workshop for artists who don’t usually work with clay within their artistic practice.
Inspired by Rose Wylie’s exuberant paintings, this is an opportunity to look at one discipline through another, to develop new skills and to experiment, as well as an opportunity for peer exchange in a positive, critically engaged environment.
SATURDAY 10.00 – 16.00 NEWLYN ART GALLERY & THE EXCHANGE
- Exhibition walk across both sites: conversation, exchange, sketching – drawing from and responding to Rose Wylie’s paintings.
- Introduction to coloured slips and experimental exploration of their material qualities.
SUNDAY 10.00 – 16.00 THE EXCHANGE
- Introduction to coiling, pinching and slab construction.
- Exploring forms: deconstructing, reconstructing and mark making – based on work from previous day.
The work produced in this workshop will be glazed and fired at Brickworks and returned to The Exchange for a six week display in The Exchange Café. Estimated dates for display are 21 Jul – 31 Aug.
To apply, please send an expression of interest to [email protected] with a link to your work (website/blog) and a short paragraph on how you think you would benefit from attending this workshop.
Deadline for expressions of interest 22 May.
Please note: applicants should be practising artists, students are not eligible.
This event has been made possible with funding from European Regional Development Fund, Arts Council England and Cornwall Council, via the Cultivator project.
