Roger Towndrow’s practice centres on drawing, exploring a range of subject matter through series of works. Predominantly working in pencil on paper, he finds that “the modesty, rawness and limited nature of the medium provides a discipline and structure from which to describe a varied and disparate imaginative experience.”
His work aims to strike a balance of plausible authenticity while also unsettling interpretations through deliberate creative choices. Recently, this has included referencing faux historical styles and incorporating AI-generated imagery to introduce intentional inconsistencies in the subject matter. Through this approach, he invites viewers to consider how we represent the natural world, reflecting on the human impulse to hold and study that which is often fleeting.
All works are for sale, in person or via our online shop.
