Newlyn Art Gallery
Drawing a Presence 2014 presented a snap shot of what it’s like to be a certain age, at a particular time, in a specific place.
Curated by emerging curators Elle Sambrook and Henry Osman, the exhibition invited visitors to Newlyn Art Gallery to view Cornwall as seen by a new generation of artists.
The works dealt with migration, landscape, folklore and social perceptions. It included a range of work in many media – wax sculpture, large-scale drawings, analogue photography and performance poetry – each conveying their own personal response to Cornwall.
In addition to the call-out, skateboarders at Wherrytown collaborated with photographer James Hankey while 3 Villages Youth Project coauthored a new site-specific piece of work with artist Samuel Bassett.
