EXPERIMENTAL DRAWING WITH ALICE ELLIS-BRAY
This August’s Wednesday afternoon workshops for children aged 7 to 12 are led by Alice Ellis-Bray and inspired by our exhibition I Chose This. The exhibition is presented across both our venues, and so are our workshops.
You can book your child onto all five of them or pick and choose:
ALL WORKSHOPS TAKE PLACE ON WEDS, 14.00 – 16.00
- WED 2, 9, & 16 AUG, The Garden, Newlyn Art Gallery, TR18 5PZ – OUTDOORS
- WED 23 & 30 AUG, The Engine Room, The Exchange, TR18 2NL
AT NEWLYN ART GALLERY
You will be drawing with the sea itself!
Awaken your drawing muscles and explore mark making using inks, seawater and seashells.
How do you draw movement?
What happens if your brush is wiggly like a line? Ask and (perhaps) answer these and other questions as you experiment, move and draw alongside each other and collaboratively.
Lines can be flat and fat, skinny and light, heavy or fuzzy, slick and smooth.
Using monoprinting techniques and pebbles you will let touch take the lead and feel your way.
AT THE EXCHANGE
WED 23 AUG: CHARCOAL LANDSCAPE
Looking at tone and light you will get your fingers dirty and add to your mark-making arsenal with charcoal, chalk, and collage.
WED 30 AUG: DRAWING FOR SCULPTURE
What’s the difference between a drawing and a sculpture?
How can a drawing become a sculpture? Using your whole body, you will navigate the space between the two- and the three- dimensional, with the help of each other and a lump of clay.
These workshops will get messy – please ensure your child wears old clothes.
£8 per child per workshop, all materials provided. Booking essential.
