Our Big Give Christmas Campaign – NOW OPEN FOR DONATIONS

CREATING NEW MEMORIES – Making our galleries age-friendly

We believe that older people who feel isolated, lonely or suffer from memory loss should have the same access to public spaces and art as everyone else.

Age UK recently discovered that engagement in creative and cultural activities makes the highest contribution to overall wellbeing in later life. We have been working in care homes with artists since 2015 and agree that being creative together has immense social benefit. We were delighted to be awarded money from the BBC Radio Cornwall Appeal and the Santander Discovery Fund and with support raised through the Big Give Challenge we will be able to make our galleries even more welcoming and accessible for older people.

This means physical changes to signage, access to the buildings, and the way the gallery looks in addition to staff and volunteer training, so that they can respond to the needs of those with memory loss. We also want to establish a regular afternoon of Tea, Cake and Art where older people can meet, chat, enjoy a cuppa together, and take a tour of the exhibition.

The gallery needs to raise £3,500 in this year’s Big Give Christmas Challenge. This will unlock funds already pledged to make a total of £7,000 – a donation of £10 will be doubled to £20, £100 will become £200, making donations work twice as hard.

The Big Give Christmas Campaign, Creating New Memories, is now open for donations until midday Tuesday 4 Dec.

Thank you for your support!
