Treen joined us our Finance Officer in July 2022, to lead on the book-keeping side of the finance department. In addition to book-keeping, she assists with delivering other financial services, ranging from accounts payable ans receivable, management accounting, budgeting, and assisting other members of the team with finance-related queries.

Treen lives in Newlyn and outside of work enjoys plenty of walking and swimming with her two dogs (Sausage and Pickle), eating good food, and spending time with family.

Miriam joined us in January 2023, working Front of House and overseeing the day-to-day operations at The Exchange. She is responsible for general gallery maintenance, including ensuring health and safety procedures are followed and up to date.

Prior to starting at The Exchange, Miriam worked at multiple galleries, design studios, and museums, including Nixon Design, Penwith Galleries, and The Poly.

Miriam studied Fine Art at Cardiff School of Art and Design, and in her spare time continues to paint and make pottery.

Rebecca Joined us in September 2021 to help realise a number of strategic learning projects for the gallery, including redeveloping our main learning space, The Engine Room at The Exchange. This project will enable us to refresh our offer for learning audiences and rethink how we engage our learners and extend our reach. Rebecca will also be feeding into a number of other key programmes for the gallery including a major new programme for schools and teachers, Think, Talk, Make Art.

Rebecca has over 10 years experience working in arts education in the cultural sector and has worked on national learning programmes as well as consulted on gallery development from an audience perspective.

Fran joined the team in August 2020 as Visitor Experience Manager at Newlyn Art Gallery, she oversees Front of House responsibilities, including admissions procedures, the gallery shops, the Picture Room programme, and workshops and events at Newlyn Art Gallery. She works closely with the Deputy Director and Operations Manager at The Exchange and co-manages a team of more than 45 volunteers across both venues.

Fran is covering the Programme Producer role until Jan 2026, working with the Tea, Cake & Art group and coordinating the Summer Art Classes timetable. In her spare time she loves to draw and is a keen runner.

Cory joined us in May 2021, he makes sure that our customers are getting the best coffee, cake and lunches that Cornwall can offer across both our stunning gallery cafes.

In his downtime Cory will be swimming and exploring the county with his little family. He also enjoys painting and writing music.

The primary aim of Cat’s role is to connect audiences with art and artists, both within and beyond the gallery buildings, designing and delivering programmes which place artist experimentation and visitor engagement at the centre of our programme, and which explore the usefulness of art in shaping and enriching our day-to-day lives.
Cat is Chair of Trustee’s for KEAP.

Adam joined us in May 2024 as our Digital Producer, working across the organisation, to design and deliver ways to both enhance
experiences for visitors and extend our activities beyond the gallery through digital access.

Adam is a photographer, filmmaker and educator. His work centres around participatory approaches to filmmaking and creative practices within community engaged contexts. With a background in producing arts and heritage programmes, his collaborative, interdisciplinary projects have been exhibited at The Laing Art Gallery, The Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Future Everything Festival and Durham Castle. He also works as Outreach Coordinator for Screen Cornwall and is a Film & TV Teacher for Pauline Quirk Academy, Truro.

James joined the gallery as Director in July 2006 to oversee the acquisition and redevelopment of the former telephone exchange in Penzance and the expansion of Newlyn Art Gallery, and their relaunch in July 2007. James brings considerable experience as a curator and of arts leadership roles. He is a member of the Steering Group of Plus Tate and a Trustee of the Borlase Smart John Wells Trust, responsible for artists’ studio provision in West Cornwall. He also sits on the advisory groups of the FEAST and Cultivator funding programmes.

A current priority for the gallery is to explore ways in which public galleries can support the creative education of young people within and outside of formal educational settings, at a time when many commentators regard this as being gravely under threat. To support this work, in 2019, James became a Trustee of the Truro & Penwith Academy Trust.

In his spare time James is a keen gig rower and keeps bees.

Kathy delivers the Marketing and Communications activities for both venues, including all exhibitions, events, shops, and cafes. This can range from press releases to posters, signage to web updates. She joined the Gallery at the end of 2009 on a temporary basis to cover maternity leave, and 15 years later is still with us.

Kathy is a keen gardener, having developed her coastal garden from scratch. When not at work you might spot Kathy out and about in Newlyn, where she lives.

Xavia joined us in May 2024 to provide dynamic and responsive marketing support across a range of social media and digital platforms. Xavia works closely with the Marketing & Communications Manager and the Digital Producer to maximise the reach of digital content such as promoting a wide spectrum of gallery events, programmes and sharing daily activities with our online audience.

Xavia is a keen surfer and loves spending time in her allotment with her young family. She also has a keen eye for film and photography, and studied Design For Film and Television at University.

Andrew joined us part-time in June 2023 and is responsible for developing and leading on the delivery of our Earned Income Strategy, whilst overseeing all things operations and commercial.

When not working at the Gallery, he runs a vegan marketing agency, and has more than 15 years’ experience working with brands that specialise in fast-moving consumer goods.

In his spare time, Andrew can be found running around West Penwith’s rugged costal terrain, printmaking, or enjoying Cornwall’s fine foods.

As a member of the Programme Team, Bettina supports exhibitions across both sites, and leads on community engagement projects, working with local, regional, and national partners. Currently this includes two Creative Health projects – the new Future Producers, an offer for young people aged 16 to 25, in partnership with We Are With You and YZUP, and the already established Tea, Cake & Art sessions for people over 65. Bettina also programms the gallery’s workshop offer for children, families, and adults.

Bettina is South West Area Rep for Engage, together with Rebecca English.

Tamsin is the Development Manager and works with all the members of the gallery team to find the funds to support the exhibition programme, our learning offer, the building infrastructure and the social engagement projects we want to create. The Development team talks with all our supporters, from our individual donors, Gallery Supporters and volunteers to Arts Council England, Cornwall Council, as well as a wide range of trusts and foundations, and business partners. We feel that supporting the gallery is an investment in the future of Penzance and the creative sector of the region, particularly of young artists at all levels.
