After working her way from apprentice to teacher at Leach Pottery, Shannon has spent the last 3 years developing her practise in her own studio, situated at Bosulval studios in the heart of the West Penwith countryside. Incorporating textures, Japanese Brushwork, layers of slips and glazes and experimenting with
local clays and materials where possible, each piece is truly unique. “The pots I make are honest and long lasting, a balance between function and form. I focus on making pieces which are not only beautiful to look at but are a pleasure to use too. I embrace the fact that each item is uniquely handmade, for example a maker’s mark in the form of a finger outline where I held the pot to glaze it, or using my hands rather than tools to create as much of the pot as I can, allowing the pot to tell a story of its creation.” Wherever possible Shannon uses sustainable ways to create work, such as firing to cooler temperatures, using clean energy and ensuring the clay is sourced responsibly.
