Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange

Social Fabric is an exhibition of textile-based art showing across both our venues, presenting the work of contemporary female artists whose practices revalue old wisdoms and techniques using traditional textile skills with fresh perspectives.

Participating artists: Ali Corder, Angela Maddock, Amarjeet Nandhra, Aya Haidar, Celia Pym, Ismini Samanidou, Jamila Prowse, Julie Cook, Lenka Clayton, Lyn Barlow, Low Profile, Nicole Chui, Onome Otite.

At the heart of this exhibition is The Workroom. Inspired by the Newlyn Industrial Needlework Classes of the 1890s, it will actively seek to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to produce objects of utility, comfort, and warmth.

This project is supported by FEAST, part of the Creative Kernow Group, with funding from Arts Council England and Cornwall County Council.

This Project is also supported by The Headley Trust.
