The Studio, Newlyn Art Gallery

THIS WORKSHOP IS SUITABLE FOR ALL ABILITIES AND FOR ANYONE WHO WOULD LIKE TO PAINT WITH OILS USING TRADITIONAL TECHNIQUES.

You will be composing a still life with vase, fabric, and flowers. You will be learning the sight-size method of drawing with pencil and paper, and will make a small painting using a limited palette of colours and colour theory to help you bring harmony to your work.

All workshop materials will be provided.

Please bring your own lunch or you can buy food from onsite café Pickle on the day.

£85 per person, booking essential as limited places available.

SCHEDULE FOR THE DAY

  • 11.00 -12.00: Arranging flower compositions and preliminary sketches using the sight-size method.
  • 12.00 -13.00: Short intro by Aster on colour harmony, limited palette and painting technique. Begin painting.
  • 13.00: Lunch Break
  • 14.00 – 16.00: Continue painting with individual instruction from Aster for any that need or want it, and the possibility of trying out a second painting if the first has been completed.

 

ASTER GUINNESS

Aster Guinness is an artist and teacher from Penzance, who uses traditional methods of drawing, painting, and colour theory to paint still lifes, portraits, interiors, and landscapes. Her work is often of everyday scenes yet have a feeling of intensity and an energy that comes from close attention. Aster’s paintings contain a visual tension and a drama that come from the different areas of colour meeting, colliding and harmonising. She recently exhibited in The Picture Room at Newlyn Art Gallery.
