OUR RECOMMENDATIONS / FAMILY-FRIENDLY PENZANCE

This month, we are delighted to have Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange Trustee, Bethia Naughton-Rumbo, sharing her family-friendly tips for a day out in Penzance and Newlyn. Bethia is a Marketing and Communications Consultant, and has recently moved back to her Penzance hometown to work and live with her husband and two little girls.

CYCLING ALONG PENZANCE PROMENADE

One of our favourite activities is to cycle along Penzance promenade, starting off at Newlyn Art Gallery and making our way to The Exchange via two brilliant play parks and beautiful views across to St Michael’s Mount. Both of the Gallery venues are very family-friendly, with regularly updated exhibitions, various children’s workshops and activities (including the Little Artists & Mini Artists and After School Art Club) along with baby changing facilities and a pram friendly lift.  

ART AND BABYCCINOS AT THE EXCHANGE

After enjoying the latest exhibition, my toddler loves having a babyccino in The Exchange Cafe. There are plenty of comfy sofas if you need to breastfeed, some thoughtfully curated sacks of toys for younger children and a much adored snake! The coffee and cakes also come highly recommended.

CHRISTMAS SHOPPING ON CHAPEL STREET

The Exchange has a lovely shop with homewares, locally made jewellery and ceramics, books, gifts, and a brilliant selection of cards. There are really lovely shops along Chapel Street too, including The Mackerel Makery in Captain Cutter’s House, which is jam-packed with unusual gift and stocking ideas, plus a whole room dedicated to delightfully creative children’s toys. It’s a tad tricky to get down the steps with a buggy, but the owner is more than happy to help!

LUNCH AND A PLAY IN PENLEE PARK

Penlee Park is a brilliant place to spend the afternoon. There is a lovely gallery and The Orangery Cafe in Penlee House, with delicious sandwiches, highchairs, and baby changing facilities. After a spot of lunch, you can head down to the newly renovated and fully accessible play park including slides, climbing walls, and a sensory panel.
