ACC NPP PROJECTS & EXHIBITIONS
Over the course of the three years of the Arts Council Collection National Partners Programme, we worked with different local groups to co-curate seven exhibitions using their selected Arts Council Collection artworks, and showcased group exhibitions and works from award-winning artists.
We collaborated with Newlyn School and a group of their Year 5 pupils to select their 10 favourite works from a long list of Arts Council Collection pieces. Five months after selection, the works were installed in the school, which became known as the Newlyn School Gallery, for 18 months.
A group exhibition that explored alternative schooling, peer-to-peer learning and self-education.
Go On Being So was curated by the MBA Collective, a group of art, photography and graphics students from Mounts Bay Academy in Penzance aged between 12 and 16 years.
“We chose works that said something about big issues for us personally, and are universal to people of our age, such as mental health and equality,” explained the Collective.
GRAYSON PERRY – THE VANITY OF SMALL DIFFERENCES
The Vanity of Small Differences was a series of six large-scale tapestries by the Turner-Prize winning artist Grayson Perry.
In collaboration with V21 Artspace and Arts Council Collection we created a virtual Palace using the latest computer-generated imagery. The Palace included the 10 artworks selected by Newlyn School as well as 11 artist-led workshops designed to stimulate both body and mind.
What Lies Behind was a mixed exhibition featuring works selected by a core group of 10 participants, referred to the project through social prescribing initiatives in local GP practices. Social prescribing schemes enable health professionals to connect people to local, non-clinical services in order to provide practical and emotional support.
Seen was co-curated by young LGBTQIA+ people from Cornwall aged between 11 – 19 working in partnership with LGBT+ charity Intercom Trust. The Trust is a lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans+ charity working across Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and the wider South West, providing a range of support and advocacy services.
Simple Truths was co-curated with dads from the WILD Young Parents Project, who we worked with from their allotment in Pengegon, Camborne. WILD Young Parents Project offers free support and activities for young parents and their children across Cornwall.
Captured Beauty was curated by Abi Hutchinson, Artistic Director of Black Voices Cornwall, who exist to enable Cornwall to become an actively anti-racist region, by improving awareness and empowerment through Communication, Education and Unification
