As an innovative fundraiser, we are holding the south west’s first ever Wet Auction on Saturday 1st October.
In recognition of Newlyn’s history of ‘plein air’ painting, artists will be invited to leave their studios, equipped with materials and a packed lunch, and spend a day working outdoors in Newlyn, Penzance and further afield in Penwith. At the end of the day at Newlyn Art Gallery, buyers will have the opportunity to bid on the works created that very day, which may, in some cases, still be wet.
With more than 50 artists taking part this fundraising event should prove to be a fun opportunity for residents and visitors to spot artists at work in and around the town, as well as at some of our partner venues including Newlyn Filmhouse, The Gurnard’s Head, The Old Coastguard, Jubilee Pool, Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens, and even one artist sailing to the Isles of Scilly and back on the Scillonian.
You can follow their movements throughout the day via social media using #wetnewlyn.
By 19.30, the works – a spontaneous snapshot of a West Penwith day – will be hung in the upper gallery ready to be auctioned. The Wet Auction, like the day, will be fast-moving and fun; with music, food from Little Wonder Café and the Studio Café Bar open. Viewing from 18.30.
