CREATING NEW MEMORIES
Creating New Memories is our Big Give Christmas campaign to provide a sociable and creative place for older people to feel welcome, to make friends and to feel part of a community.
We know from our work in care homes, and from talking to the Dementia Action Alliance and Alzheimer’s Society, of the enormous benefits to health and wellbeing sociable creativity brings to those suffering memory loss, and to their carers. We want to bring the great things we learnt to make both our venues dementia- and age-friendly. This means physical changes to signage, access to the buildings, and the way the gallery looks in addition to staff and volunteer training, so that we are sympathetic to the needs of those with memory loss. We also want to establish a regular afternoon of Tea, Cake and Art where older people can meet, chat, enjoy a cuppa together, and take a tour of the exhibition. To do this we need to raise £3,500 in this year’s Big Give Christmas Challenge. This will unlock funds already pledged to make a total of £7,000, so your donation of £10 will be doubled to £20, £300 to £600, making your support work twice as hard. With this money we will make the galleries more welcoming and friendly for older people.
The Big Give Christmas Campaign will be open for donations from midday Tuesday 27 Nov to midday Tuesday 4 Dec. If you’d like us to send you a reminder, please email us at [email protected]
