A POSTCARD TO PENZANCE
A Postcard to Penzance has been running since May 2013 and is a positive invitation for anyone to contribute their voice to the future of our town. In that time we collected around 1,000 postcards with the dreams, ideas and suggestions of Penzance residents and visitors which have been exhibited, and consulted by Cornwall Council and the Penzance Business Improvement District in their policy making. We have hosted six lively events from serious debate, to light-hearted consideration of our curious town, to young peoples’ response to the question of their town’s future. Future events include considering artists’ role in shaping our town.
The project has been supported by Feast, First Great Western and Cornwall Community Foundation. If you wish to subscribe to A Postcard to Penzance emailing list, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
THE EXTRAMURAL PROJECT
A bi-annual project in collaboration with Cornwall College, and great opportunity for students in Cornwall to work on a public art installation. The emphasis was on project management skills, effective communication within the group and with stakeholders, and working to a brief. The module allowed students to respond creatively to a public space on a large scale and to take an inter-disciplinary approach. As they worked the students developed an awareness of potential opportunities for them in the creative sector, and of the important role of public art within the community.
